ExperiencePlus! is excited to introduce new self-guided tour offerings in Italy, beginning in spring 2024. From the shores of Lake Garda and the peaks and valleys of the famed Dolomites to the Apennine Mountains, Tuscany’s golden landscapes, and the green heart of Umbria, these new budget-friendly, self-guided tours offer flexibility and independence, and offer the perfect combination of DIY travel with the convenience of having all the route planning mapped out and ready to go.

We believe that exploring any destination by bicycle is an enriching and empowering experience that should be accessible to as many people as possible. That’s why we applied 50+ year’s of experience designing award-winning tours to build new budget-friendly tours perfect for bike enthusiasts who like to do it themselves (but would rather leave the planning to us!).

We’re launching our self-guided program with six fabulous tours in Italy. Departure dates are weekly and most tours run between March and October. Inclusions are very different from guided tours, so be sure you understand how these tour styles differ. We also updated our FAQ page to include a dedicated section on self-guided tours. But if the open road is what you crave and group travel, chalk arrows and van support aren’t requirements, this might be just the right tour style for you!

These tours combine the flexibility of independent travel with the support and expertise that ExperiencePlus! is known for. With carefully curated routes, hand-picked accommodations, comprehensive digital guidebooks, seamless daily luggage transfers from start to finish, and options for culinary and cultural activities, cyclists can immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of Italy.

“You need to have strong partnerships and understanding of a place to successfully operate self-guided tours,” says Maria Elena Price, co-owner of ExperiencePlus!. “It’s one of the reasons we are offering self-guided tours in Italy first. We have spent decades building our local connections and have successfully applied that knowledge and expertise in the development of these new itineraries.”
