Travel planning

Weather while cycling

We design and schedule our tours for the best possible cycling weather. Yet, mother nature is a fickle beast – sometimes she cooperates and sometimes it seems like she has a hateful vengeance to enact. Although none of us ever hope to be stuck out in the rain, or caught in the cold, it can and does happen so we want to make sure we help you be as prepared as possible should the heavens darken and the skies open up. On most tours, there’s usually a café around the corner you can duck into for a few minutes should you be more inclined towards a hot toddy than a wet, chilly tush.

Planning for weather

Weather records typically work with 30-year averages, which means that you could go to Tuscany, Paris or Ireland in an “off-year” and freeze OR enjoy unseasonably warm and clear weather. Even though we plan our trips in the driest and most preferable months weather-wise, we recommend you always take rain gear, and warm layers and sun protection for hot and sunny conditions. Take a look at our Packing Lists as you start planning.

Heat

Heat can also be a concern and should we encounter unseasonably hot weather periods on tour, we will try our best to provide flexibility to avoid the hottest parts of the day. Our Tour Leaders are trained to handle adverse conditions and may restructure daily schedules to avoid peak heat.
