Welcome to the May 2011 ExperiencePlus! Rambler

Dear Folks,

The winter bicycle tour season is winding down in S. America (as we speak our last tour of the season has folks pedaling through canyons and colorful gorges on our tour in Northern Argentina) but the summer season is ramping up in Europe.  So far, we’ve hit the ground rolling very fast with trips leaving in Italy, Spain, and France. Maybe even more exciting is news from our Colorado office. For those of you who still enjoy sitting down with a “real” magazine these days, you may have picked up the May/June issue of National Geographic Traveler and found some familiar faces in there. ExperiencePlus! ‘s very own second generation owners and sisters, Monica and Maria Elena Malpezzi Price were recognized in the 10 Great Guides feature – a selection of the top 10 guides in the world by the editors of National Geographic Traveler. You can see other recent coverage on our tours in magazines like Velo News and Adventure Cycling on our media page.

We couldn’t be more honored to be included in that list. In addition, another one of our itineraries has been included in their list of 50 tours of a lifetime.  See our articles below for more details on the 10 Great Guides  list with Maria Elena and  Monica and the feature on our bicycle tour along the Danube.

Also in this newsletter you can find frequent traveler and cyclist John Sadler’s thoughts on why cycling in the Dolomites is at the top of his bucket list (he’s up for it a second time, who wants to join him?).  We also have an update from our Italy 150 Expedition trip (our 30 day trip from Sicily to Turin celebrating Italy’s unification)  that begins Saturday ( May 7).  Join in on the Italian spirit by celebrating with some red, white and green specialties at your own lunch table – we’ve provided some excellent recipes you can try even if you aren’t in Italy.

Hoping you have exciting travels and bike rides to look forward to this May, until next month.

The national media continues to feature ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours – in the May/June 2011 issue  of National Geographic Traveler our Bicycling the Danube from Germany to Vienna Plus! Hungary trip was picked as one of “50 Tours of a Lifetime”. In 2010 our Cycling the Camino de Santiago: Roncesvalles to Santiago earned the honor. We are thrilled that our bicycle tours continue to gain national recognition.

Recipe: Celebrate Italy’s 150th Birthday

Tomato and Cheese Bruschette

The ExperiencePlus! Italia 150 Expedition tour starts on Saturday, May 7.  This tour pedals from Marsala Sicily up the east coast all the way to Piedmont in 29 days.  We’ll have regular updates from those on the road on our blog and you can catch the RSS feed here.  For those of us staying at home, we thought we could celebrate the way Italians celebrate best – with food! Our recipe this month has include the tricolore (three colors) of the Italian flag and a review of a cook book written by a 71 year old Italian just 20 years after Italy’s unification.

Check our red, white and green recipe compilation to help us all celebrate Italy’s 150th birthday.

Happy Cycling until next month!
