Send a Teacher Traveling!

ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours is proud to offer our Send A Teacher Traveling (S.A.T.T.) Award, designed to recognize outstanding public school teachers throughout the United States. We believe that public school teachers (K-12) are the nation's most important human resource. We also believe that teachers' participation in educational, active travel (such as our bike tours) will have a lasting effect and impact countless students who will hear about and learn from their teachers' travel experiences.

Since the program began in 1996 we have given away over 25 free bicycle tours across Europe and Latin America.  Co-owners of ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours, Monica and Maria Elena, are excited to offer this award. With help from their parents - the founders of ExperiencePlus!, Rick and Paola Malpezzi-Price – both educators themselves -  assist selecting the winner.

 

Who Can Apply?

Any public or private school teacher employed at least half-time in the United States is eligible to apply. Past S.A.T.T. winners are not eligible, although they may support new applicants.

Applications should include the following:
  • A  personal letter explaining the teacher's credentials, why they feel they should receive a free bicycle tour and how s/he will use the S.A.T.T. experience in their classroom.
  • Another letter from a supervisor verifying that the teacher meets the requirements of K-12 Public or Private School teaching and be employed at least half-time.
  • Two letters of recommendation from colleagues, friends or peers should also be included.
  • Indicate the specific tour that you feel will enhance your curriculum and why. (TourzPlus! partner trips are excluded).
  • Your mailing address, email and phone number.

Deadlines and Rules

All materials must be submitted together and postmarked by the last day of February or emailed to tours@experienceplus.com.

Winners will be selected after consideration of all application materials and will be announced by March 23rd and travel must be complete by January 1st.  Though the tour is free the recipient must submit a $500 deposit. The deposit will be refunded at the conclusion of the tour, unless the recipient withdraws from participation. In which case the deposit will be handled per our Terms and Conditions. We do require a minimum of 10 applicants for the award to be given. 

Recipient will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the tour, meals not included in the itinerary, and any pre/post tour expenses. If the recipient prefers their own room for the tour they will also be charged a private room fee. If they are willing to share there is no additional cost even if we aren't able to match them with a roommate.

Though we feel teachers everywhere should be rewarded for their efforts the SATT is open to K-12 public and private school teachers in the US. Teachers outside the US are not eligible.
 
Applicants are solely responsible for any taxes on the trip awarded, will provide their Tax ID information to ExperiencePlus, and will receive an IRS Form 1099 Misc for the value of the award.
 
The award cannot be exchanged for cash.
