Day 1: Meet in Oak, Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard
Highlights: Bike fit and welcome dinner
Your tour leaders will meet you at 1:10PM at the ferry in Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha's Vineyard. From the ferry dock it's a short transfer to your lodging for the next three nights. The inn is a lovely sanctuary nestled in the midst of 56 acres of woods and rolling pastures punctuated by stone walls dating back over 300 years. Enjoy a short warm-up ride then take advantage of the inn's spa, heated lap pool, Jacuzzi, and tennis courts. Gather for a welcome reception before dining in the Inn's restaurant, well known for delicious, innovative and healthy cuisine. (8 -14 miles)
Day 2: Bike Paths, Coastal Routes, & Historic Seaports
Highlights: Bike paths and Edgartown
Today's ride introduces you to the network of fabulous bike paths crisscrossing the island. Visit historic Edgartown, a bustling port during the height of the whaling era which is now a summer haven for the very wealthy. Stroll the narrow streets dotted with chic shops. Ride along the sea to a unique Victorian seaside community, which is home to hundreds of colorful gingerbread style cottages. Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch overlooking the harbor in Edgartown. A champagne sunset sail caps off your day. Dinner is on your own. (21 - 41 miles)
Day 3: The Quiet Side of the Island & the Cliffs of Aquinnah
Highlights: Beautiful coastal ride with swimming opportunities
Your first destination of the day is the small fishing village of Menemsha which was made famous by the movie Jaws. Board a special bike ferry to reach a beautiful section of the route that traverses bluffs and sand dunes en route to Aquinnah. Enjoy dramatic views over the gorgeous painted cliffs before exploring the beach below. Visit a lovely private beach where you might go for a swim or simply relax and enjoy the rhythm of the surf. You'll also have the opportunity to witness the creations of local artisans. Return to the inn for a spa treatment or game of tennis before enjoying dinner. (16 - 33 miles)
Day 4: Cruise to Nantucket
This morning you'll ride beautiful bike paths to meet our vessel for your cruise across the waters of Nantucket Sound to the storied island of Nantucket. During the height of the whaling era these waters were the most heavily traveled on earth outside of the English Channel. The former whaling capital of the world, Nantucket Town's cobblestone streets and stately old homes exude a sense of history unmatched by other coastal towns. Upon disembarking the boat, visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum. Dinner is on your own at one of the fine restaurants in town. (15 - 24 miles)
Day 5: The Eastern Reaches of the Island
Highlights: 'Sconset, dramatic views
Today's ride offers some of the islands most dramatic views. Visit a town which almost seems to be frozen in time with its lovely collection of gray-shingled cottages, many of which are surrounded by beautiful gardens. For decades, artists have been drawn to the beauty of the shell-covered roads and classic cottages on the bluff above the ocean. Pass by the remnants of one of the oldest cranberry bogs in Massachusetts. Visit a lighthouse that was one of the most important beacons of its time on the east coast. The original Fresnel lens, which was crafted in Paris, can be seen at the Whaling Museum. This evening join the group for a fabulous farewell dinner at a favorite local restaurant. Lunch is on your own today. (20 - 39 miles)
Day 6: Beach Romp
This morning, enjoy a ride to one of the more popular beaches on the island for surf. Watch for seals playing near the shore before returning to the inn for showers. Enjoy a final opportunity for exploring the town of Nantucket before we depart on the noon ferry back to Hyannis and arrive at around 2:30. Feel free to schedule your flights from Hyannis after 4:00PM.(9 miles)
