Welcome to the November 2008 ExperiencePlus! Rambler E-Mail Newsletter

Dear Folks, Rick, Maria Elena, Paola, and Monica

There is exciting news at ExperiencePlus! this month.  Monica and Maria Elena are officially top management now at ExperiencePlus! We’d love to hear from you, so e-mail us anytime–Monica@ExperiencePlus.com MariaElena@ExperiencePlus.com

We’ve waited almost 10 years for Lance Armstrong to race in Italy's Giro d’Italia, and it seems that our patience will finally pay off!  Lance announced in September that he plans to race in the 100th anniversary of the “people’s race” in Italy in May 2009.  Italy is our home away from home so we are excited that Lance will finally get to enjoy some of the same beautiful roads that we grew up riding. Join us won’t you and we’ll eat gelato, ride over spectacular mountains and sip cappuccinos as we watch the racers in the Giro d’Italia.   The tour route should be announced in late November or December and we anticipate having one trip in Tuscany/Emilia Romagna and another in the Dolomites. Contact us now to get on the list and we will keep you posted as tour details become available. To help set the mood we are featuring Rick’s 2004 review of Dino Buzzati’s book about the 1949 Giro.

Not just Italy! Lance has also announced he is considering a return to THE grand tour in France in 2009. All the details for our spectacular tour in the Alps were just posted to our website. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch three stages of the Tour and ride all the famous cols including l’Alpe d’Huez and Mont Ventoux. Join us on July 19 - 26 for bicycle racing's most amazing spectacle.

As the cold sets in our thoughts can’t help but turn towards the south . . . Have you ever bicycled by a field of pineapples or had to dodge monkeys darting across the road as you pedaled by? Join us in Costa Rica this winter and discover the natural wonders of this tiny country. Four different tours and plenty of departure dates means we have a vacation that will fit your schedule and your interest. Read more about what this beautiful country has to offer below. Remember Costa Rica is a short flight away and the US dollar is currently strong against the colones.

Monica recounts her first trip to South America where she and Michele Boglioni helped lead the inaugural ExpeditionPlus! Coast to Coast trip across Chile and Argentina. They also extended their travels after the Coast to Coast trip to scout the route for our new High Andes Expedition which will kick off this March.  Based on past experience we can just about guarantee that you will have a life changing experience on either the January 9 – 26, 2009 Coast to Coast or the  March 1- April 7, High Andes Expeditions of course you have to be crazy and fit enough to want to do one of them.  Both of these bike trips take your over mountains and across the Pampas on paved roads – and our new fleet of Merida Road Bikes will help you be all that you can be!

For those of you making plans for next summer or fall, we are happy to report our new brochure is in the mail! We’ve made a concerted effort to reduce the amount of paper we use so our new mailing is designed to tease and tempt you into looking at our website.

AND don’t forget we are offering a limited number of Early Booking Discounts - the offer expires on November 30th so call us and talk to a human today.

Happy cycling until next month,
The Price Family

Monica and Michele Take Us to South America

Michele certainly wears the extra pants in this family.

Monica and Michele share stories from their two month trip leading and scouting trips in South America.

After all, why try and arrange your suitcase when you are going to have to fit a lot more stuff in it? United Parcel Service showed that the package should arrive on the 23rd of December, a whole one-day prior to their flight – perfect, except that it was already the 24th and they had to catch a plane at 2:45PM.

Read more about it here.

Book Review
The Giro d'Italia (Coppi Versus Bartali at the 1949 Tour of Italy) by Dino Buzzati

Giro d'Italia by Dino Buzzati

The Giro d'Italia celebrates 100 years this May and rumors indicate that Lance Armstrong will take part in this historic event, and wherever Lance goes ExperiencePlus! and our customers are sure to follow. With wind trainer season upon us we thought we'd offer you some historical information and inspiring reading as you prepare for your own Giro d'Italia

The historic 1949 Giro d'Italia brought legends Coppi and Bartali head-to-head. "They are pilgrims traveling to distant city that they will never reach: they symbolize, in flesh and blood, as depicted in an ancient painting, the incomprehensible adventure of life..."
