Dear Folks,
Spring – the time of year when new beginnings and exciting vacation plans are formed. Speaking of, Maria Elena has graduated with her MBA from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has some exciting vacation plans - summer cycling (surprise!) in Belgium, France and Italy. If you are still struggling for a great vacation idea check out our tour finder we have a plethora of bicycle tours to keep you traveling the world this summer and fall. Airfares are still at an all time low for most destinations - so what are you waiting for? Join us in Italy to Bicycle the Coast of Tuscany, or ride across Italy from Venice to Pisa. We still have a few spaces on our Cycling the Camino de Santiago trip in northern Spain and Cycling Provence ttour OR . . . anywhere else your heart desires!
Monica, Rick, Paola, our staff in Italy and tw of our bicycle tour groups lined the streets recently as Lance Armstrong and the Giro d’Italia passed within yards of the Farm (our European Headquarters near Forlí, Italy). Lance held his own in Italy, but it seemed obvious to all that he was saving himself for France. There is still a chance to join us and cheer Lance on to one more yellow jersey on our July 19th to 26th Chasing Lance in the French Alps and Mont Ventoux.
Back at the US office in Fort Collins, CO we are preparing the 2010 bicycle tour schedule and are excited to bring back some old favorites like Cycling Sardinia in Italy and Cycling Corsica in France. We’ll have a few new bicycle trips to tempt you with, including a new itinerary along the Danube River that begins in Germany and goes through Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. This winter we have a new bicycle tour in Costa Rica (read more in our article on Costa Rica below!) and Chile’s Wine Country.
We are also unveiling the first ever Early Booking Discount for our winter destinations. You’ll save $200 per person if you are one of the first people to book an October 2009 through June 2010 tour in Central or South America so give us a call today!
Bike to Work week is June 22 – 28 in Fort Collins and ExperiencePlus! is once again hosting a free breakfast station for Bike to Work Day, Wednesday, June 24th. If you are in town and commuting that day, stop by and enjoy a solar-powered smoothie and mention that you read about the event in the Rambler and we’ll reward you with a fabulous ExperiencePlus! reflective pant strap.
And don’t forget the ExperiencePlus! MS150 team joins 3,000 fellow riders on June 27th and 28th striving to raise a record 3.2 million dollars to help create a world free of MS. If you would like to help the effort you can submit your donation here.
Whatever your plans may be for June, happy cycling,
Maria Elena and Monica (and the rest of us at ExperiencePlus!)

Costa Rica: A New Tour, Improved Roads and Coming Soon New Hybrid Bicycles
Mario Cordero, who coordinates our tours in Costa Rica, recently sent this update about some exciting things happening in Costa Rica. The itinerary is now complete for our new Coasting Costa Rica Plus! Sabanareos and Beaches bicycle tour!
The current government, under Nobel Peace Price winner President Oscar Arias, has done a great job at building new major roads and highways and also at improving the secondary roads we use on our bicycle tours. Road conditions this year are better than we have ever seen them since ExperiencePlus! started running bike tours here in 1994.
We are also offering a $200 Early Booking Discount to the first 20 people who book a October 2009 - June 2010 Costa Rica tour.

A Taste of Patagonia: Notes from a Biker's Journal by Customer Linda Hayek on the 2009 Coast to Coast Expedition
Linda Hayek shares her journal from the ExpeditionPlus! bicycle trip across Patagonia that took place in January of 2009.
Sunday, January 11 Valdivia to Futrono
Headed away from the river region, we pumped across the Cordillera range toward the higher peaks. The terrain today is different than that prior to the 1960 earthquake, the strongest ever recorded (9.5 on the Richter scale). The collapse caused sunken spots which soon became saltwater lakes when the tsunami brought a 35 foot wall of water crashing inland over 20 miles.
Our 2010 Patagonia: Coast to Coast itinerary, January 12 - 27 has a new route and we are currently offering a $200 per person Early Booking Discount.

Getting To Know Linda Hayek
People often ask us what sort of person joins us on our ExpeditionPlus! bicycle trips - here's one example.
My goal is to see the entire world from my bicycle. So far I have ventured into corners of three continents. I can do the math and will likely run out of time, but I am not discouraged. Riding a bicycle turns up my senses until I can almost smell the sounds along the way; I'm wide awake and fully alive.

Snoretories (Translated from “Chorizos, Sirenen und Wilde Gänse” by Jochen Mangelsen and Philipp Alexander Schmitt)

Philipp Alexander Schmitt leads our tours in Spain and Germany. We thought we would share one of the chapters from his book about hiking the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain for the first time. Join us on our bicycle tour along the Camino and we promise you won't have the same worries as Philipp!
Before starting the Camino my heart filled with concerns and worries. It is the sleeping that worries me, sleeping in dormitories more precisely. Never being alone, locked in a room with strangers.

From Paola's Kitchen
Chicken Provençal with Olives and Anchovies
This dish uses seasonings and products that are associated with the French region of Provence and the Mediterranean region in general. It is very tasty, especially if you use the anchovies!
Click here to read the rest of Paola's Chicken Provençal recipe. To taste the real thing join us on our Cycling Provence trip or Heart of Provence tour this fall!
If you would like additional recipes, visit our online recipe archive. You'll find recipes for European and Latin American specialties like Panzanella: a Tuscan Salad, Tapenade, Gallo Pinto, and more.
