March often feels like an “in between” month. I imagine it’s the time of year when one might gaze out over future months and start to think about what lies ahead. The holiday season bustle is long gone and spring starts to peak out from behind winter snowstorms. In our office this means we are all planning summer travels so I couldn’t help but be curious if in general people spend more time browsing and thinking about future travel plans in March. To find some data to help me understand if this might be true, I analyzed the number of visits to our on-line Tour Finder, and it turns out my intuition wasn’t exactly correct. Historically, March is in the top four, but is not the highest ranked. I also learned that the greatest majority of people (almost 60%) searching our Tour Finder this month favor tours that start in May, June, July and September.
If those are your preferred travel dates, the good news is that we still have trips with space available. For those of you who plan further ahead and even into 2014 (!) we’ve just posted Chile and Argentina dates for late 2013 and early 2014. Early planners can start dreaming of beautiful lakes, Chilean wine or colorful canyons in Northwestern Argentina and take advantage of our $200, per person, Early Booking Discount.
Our newsletter this month features an article on resources that ExperiencePlus! provides to help you make the most of your vacation including complimentary travel agent services. Also look for more stories from our staff, including a recipe from Max in Italy, an article on anticipating a trip to Corsica by Joeann, a book review from Julie who is planning a month long trip along the Divide Trail, and an interview with Joan on why he’s so excited to have a new tour in Spain’s Catalonia’s Costa Brava – his home region.

We interviewed our Spanish country coordinator and tour leader Joan Escosura about something very close to his heart – ExperiencePlus!’ new cycling trip along Catalonia’s Costa Brava which he helped design. Joan is very excited to introduce our riders to his home region and is also thrilled that we now have a 201 (201-301) rated trip in Spain.

Cycling on the island of Corsica has been on my wish list for nearly a decade, so when I learned that I would be traveling there in September to join the ExperiencePlus! Cycling Corsica – the Island of Beauty trip I was truly excited. More accurately, I was over-the-top.

Staffer Julie Horton is preparing for a month long mountain biking journey along the Great Divide from Banff, Canada to Colorado and has enjoyed reading Paul Howard’s Eat, Sleep, Ride and Jill Homer’s Be Brave, Be Strong both of whom raced the route that continues all the way to the border of Mexico. Julie shares her thoughts about her own ride and those who have gone before her.

We have Massimo Malpezzi to thank for this month’s recipe. You may know Max from one of our tours – he’s lead them since the early ‘90’s – or maybe you’ve been lucky enough to dine at his seafood restaurant in Cesenatico, a short drive from our Italian base. This simple recipe is a favorite at his restaurant and we hope you’ll enjoy it.
