New 2012 Cycling Destinations in Italy, France and the Czech Republic.
We are very excited to tempt you with 5 new cycling itineraries in Europe. We’ve created a new grand tour in Provence that combines the highlights of our Cycling Provence and Best of Provence tours. There is also a new tour in the Languedoc and French Catalonia that includes a stay in Carcassonne, perhaps the best preserved fortress town in Europe. We’ll also head back to cycle the Czech Republic to explore fairytale villages. And last, but certainly not least, check out our two new tours in Italy featuring the Lakes District and Emilia Romagna, the culinary capital of Italy. Read more about each of these tours in this newsletter.
Don’t forget to submit your favorite travel photos in our contest; it could be you who wins a free tour.
Until next month,
Monica and Maria Elena Malpezzi Price
With a variety of landscapes bathed by the Mediterranean sun and connected with a vast network of small country roads that extend from the sea to the mountains, the Languedoc is a region ideally discovered by bicycle. Experience all of the character of southern France cycling through picturesque small villages built of sun-toasted limestone enlivened by center squares filled with farmer’s markets, locals gossiping over their pastis drinks, and heated games of boules played with heavy steels balls polished by the calloused hands of French retirees.

The Czech Republic is home to over 2,000 preserved castles; there are more per square mile than any other country in the world with each telling the story of both the conquerors and the conquered, and the respective shifts in artistic design with each change of power.

Since Roman times Italy’s lakes Maggiore, Como, and Garda have attracted visitors seeking the mild micro-climates that allow citrus trees and olives to grow further north than their typical habitat on or near the Mediterranean Sea. Add to that climate formal Renaissance gardens, 17th century villas, alpine views, and lively lakeside villages, and you have a delightful bicycle tour through northern Italy.

The great thing about this tour is that it allows you to experience the best of Italy’s homemade pasta, Parma ham and cheese, balsamic vinegar, and it takes you through the center of so many cultural icons that make Italy unique.
