Welcome to the April 2011 ExperiencePlus! Rambler

Dear Folks,Tour Leaders, Rick Langford and Lisa Merighi, at the farm in their new ExperiencePlus! jerseys.

First of all, many thanks to everyone who called concerned about the wildfires in the foothills west of our office in Fort Collins, CO. We are very hopeful that some cooler moist weather will help fire fighters contain the 3,200 acre blaze.

Thankfully over at The Farm in Italy (our European Headquarters) spring has sprung more gently and things are greening nicely.  In fact, we’ve had perfect weather for our semi-annual staff and tour leader orientations in preparation of the April 14th start of our European cycling season.  Our new fleet of hybrid bicycles and titanium road bicycles are all prepped.  Country Coordinators have put the final touches on tour logistics.  We are ready for the cycling adventurers to arrive! If you haven’t picked your bicycle tour yet, what are you waiting for?  If you don’t quite feel prepared physically for riding check out Leah Barrett’s article below with tips on transitioning to bicycling outside and then reward yourself for your efforts with an ExperiencePlus! bicycle tour.

We are also very pleased to report that ExperiencePlus! has recently been featured in several national magazines. The national attention is fantastic, but perhaps not as entertaining as ExperiencePlus! traveler Jane Wheeler’s blog about her adventure with us in Classical Greece last fall. Check them both out below. And don’t forget that if you blog on tour we’d love to share it in the newsletter so send it our way.

Our recently announced new trips Bicycling Belgium’s Best Breweries (and Plus! extension) are off to a great start. We have confirmed departures and some space available on these special tours that feature special guest brew master Jeff Lebesch, co-founder and former owner of New Belgium Brewery (makers of Fat Tire). Join us and satisfy your craving for great beer and bicycling.

We look forward to seeing you on tour soon; in the meantime get out and ride!

Monica and Maria Elena

VeloNews - Ultimate Ride Guide

The next time you pick up your favorite bicycle or travel magazine don’t be surprised if you recognize a few of the people or jerseys you see.  Last year our Camino de Santiago: Roncesvalles to Santiago was featured as one of National Geographic Traveler’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime”. 2011 is off to a bang with features in VeloNews, Ultimate Ride Guide and Adventure Cyclist.

Bicycling Classical Greece – A Blog By ExperiencePlus! Traveler June Wheeler

June Wheeler and Peter Herzog

In October of 2010 June Wheeler and her partner, Peter Herzog, joined ExperiencePlus! to Bicycle Across Classical Greece from Athens to Olympia. June kept a blog with wonderful stories and photos throughout the trip. We are very excited that she has graciously agreed to allow us to share their trip with you.

June and Peter live in St. Paul, Minnesota and started bike touring in 1996 as a result of knee injury rehabilitation (June) and purely non-competitive enjoyment (Peter). When not on their bikes, June enjoys riding her horse Bjorne and training her dog Bess in agility, as well as coaching lacrosse goalies at the high school and college level.  Peter enjoys photography, watercolor painting and sketching, which he pursues avidly during bike tours to capture the soul and essence of the wonderful places they have visited.

Learn more about June, Peter and Greece in June’s Blog Bicycling Classical Greece from Athens to Olympia. Feel free to let your excitement about the journey run wild because there is still space available for you to join us this October for your own special journey across the Peloponnese!

Bear Garlic Soup

Bear Garlic Soup

This delicious recipe is from our Bicycling Bavaria’s Back Roads tour and comes to us from Tour Leader Philipp Alexander Schmitt. Bear garlic leaves offer a mild garlic flavor that combines perfectly with the richness of the creme fraiche  making this soup an instant favorite.

Check out Philipp’s recipe for Bear Garlic Soup.

Happy Cycling until next month!
